Health Insurance Advice
Private Medical Insurance
Free NHS healthcare is available to everyone in the UK. But, some people take out health insurance so that they can choose the level of care they get.
Although the level of cover varies, basic Private Medical Insurance usually picks up the costs of most in-patient treatments and day-care surgery. Sometimes it might also include out-patient treatment.
What isn’t covered?
- You can’t take out cover for treatment you know you’re going to need
- Health problems from your past might not be included
- Cover doesn’t always include out-patient treatments, routine treatments (like health checks), dental care or experimental treatments
- Things like routine pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, fertility treatment, psychiatric conditions, and cosmetic surgery are usually excluded too.
Keeping Costs Down: It’s a competitive market, so cover and costs vary from company to company. How much excess you choose to pay also has an impact on the costs.
Let us take care of it for you. We can shop around and find the cover that’s right for you. Just speak to us to find out more.
Health Cash Plans
This offers limited cash sums towards everyday healthcare bills. Different policies cover one or a combination of healthcare types (like dental care, optical care, physiotherapy, or stays in hospital).
Most providers offer a range of options with different levels of payouts. And the smaller the payouts the cheaper the premiums.
What isn’t covered?
- Some policies will only cover you if you’re under a certain age (often 65)
- If you’ve had health problems in the past, the cash plan may not pay out on certain types of healthcare
- Some plans might not pay out for treatment undergone in the first few months of the policy
Dental Insurance
This usually covers you for treatments such as crowns, root canals, bridges and dentures – all up to an agreed maximum each year.
If your teeth are in good health, you can also pay monthly for check-ups, regular treatment, X-rays and extractions.
What isn’t covered?
- More serious work is often excluded
- Some plans might not pay out for treatment undergone in the first few months of the policy
